Spring 2027 Ukraine Studies Research Fellowship 

We invite applications for the Spring 2027 Ukraine Studies Research Fellowship in Washington, D.C.The four-month fellowship supports scholars affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine whose research contributes to Ukrainian studies and international affairs. Fellowship period: January 15–May 15, 2027

 Stipend: $5,000/month ($20,000 total)

 Additional support: If needed, reasonable visa-related expenses and one round-trip ticket to Washington, D.C.

 Application deadline: October 1, 2026

Eligibility: Applicants must hold a PhD or Candidate of Science degree, be currently or previously based in Ukraine, conduct research at the intersection of Ukrainian studies and international affairs, and be professionally fluent in English.

The selected fellow will pursue an independent research project while in residence at IERES, present their research to the IERES community and at the Petrach Program’s Online Conference on April 23, 2027, and participate in relevant university and institute activities. There is no teaching requirement.

Applications should include an English-language CV, a cover letter of no more than two pages outlining the proposed research project and the benefits of a residency at IERES, and contact information for two references.
